The Shadow of Necessity: Part III – Bureaucratic Indifference

 ✍️ Bureaucratic Indifference

My detailed formal complaint was met, as anticipated, not with decisive action, but with bureaucratic stonewalling. The company's immediate response was a short, generic acknowledgment. What followed over the next weeks was a draining series of exchanges that revealed the true nature of their investigation: delay, obfuscation, and a shocking reduction in my working hours.

The following emails—from June 26 through July 16, 2025—document this initial, agonizing phase where the focus shifted from investigating harassment to questioning my work availability.

Phase 1: The Inquiry and The Initial Delays (June 26 – July 16, 2025)

The Demand for Details (June 26, 2025)

Dear Erik,

Thank you again for raising your concerns.

We need a few answers as we begin our investigations.

Could you kindly provide answers to the following

What is the name of the male colleague who created the hostile environment as stated in your complaint?

What is the name of the Line 10 leader?

Who did you make the complaint to?

Were there any witnesses who can corroborate this incident?

Kindly provide us with answers to these questions by 07/07/2025.

Best Regards,

Anna King

My Response: Identifying the Culprits (July 4, 2025)

Dear Anna,

Please accept my apologies for the delay in responding to your email. I've been working night shifts recently, and as you might understand, it takes time to recover and manage my schedule after such hours.

Regarding your questions, I regret to inform you that I currently do not have the exact names of the male colleague who created the hostile environment or the Line 10 leader. It would be challenging and potentially uncomfortable for me to directly approach them for this information. I would be very grateful if Staffline could assist me in identifying these individuals. Perhaps a Staffline representative could accompany me during a future night shift – we could arrange a suitable date – to help identify the people involved. Alternatively, please advise me on how Staffline can safely and efficiently obtain this information through your own resources, for instance, by contacting the management at Samworth Brothers.

As I mentioned in my initial email, I have already sent a detailed complaint to Samworth Brothers management, and they have confirmed they are investigating the matter.

Regarding witnesses, there were other individuals present on the line during the incident. However, I would prefer not to put them in a difficult position by asking them directly to corroborate. I believe a thorough internal investigation by Staffline would be best suited to identify potential witnesses and speak with them appropriately, if necessary.

I want to reiterate that all the details provided in my original complaint are entirely true and accurate. I stand by everything I have stated and have no intention of retracting my complaint.

I am available to provide further details and discuss this situation verbally if you deem it necessary. I am happy to arrange a phone call or meeting, as I believe some aspects might be more easily clarified through direct conversation, while still maintaining a clear written record of our communication.

Please let me know how you would like to proceed.

Best regards,

Erik Pytar

The Second Delay: Annual Leave (July 16, 2025)

Dear Erik,

I hope you are well.

I am writing to give you an update on your complaint.

Following your complaint, we began investigations, however, there has been a slight delay due to relevant managers currently being on annual leave.

Once they return, investigation will resume, and I will receive feedback to provide you with an outcome.

Thank you for patience while we investigate this matter.

Best Regards,

Anna King

My Escalation: The Financial Strain (July 16, 2025)

Dear Anna,

Thank you for your reply and for providing an explanation for the delay. I understand that the relevant managers are on annual leave and that this affects the pace of the investigation.

I have carefully read your request for patience and I want to assure you that, despite the difficult situation I am facing, I have been and will continue to be patient. However, it is essential that you understand the pressure I am under. My financial situation is becoming extremely precarious due to the lack of work and the fact that I depend on weekly payments. Also, please consider my personal responsibilities, including financial support for my mother's treatment.

Therefore, in addition to patience, I request an urgent clarification regarding my professional status. Even a preliminary decision would help me plan my future and turn my attention to other options, if necessary.

I look forward to the investigation resuming as soon as the managers return and thank you in advance for any help you can offer in accelerating the process.

Sincerely,

Erik

The Interruption (A)

The response to my plea for financial stability was not an acceleration of the investigation, but a sudden focus on my shift availability and a systematic reduction in my working hours. This escalation of professional insecurity in the face of my official complaint demanded a far more aggressive and comprehensive response.

The full details of this deterioration and my demand for legal transparency will continue in The Shadow of Necessity: Part IV
