✍️ The Eruption and the Formal Indictment
I travelled to England to join my sister, who is established there, purely for the purpose of work. I applied for residency, but what I held was a working code, an essential contract that positioned me as an agency employee at the factory. The draw of the night shift was irresistible—more hours worked, better pay per hour, and the undeniable benefit of reclaiming my entire day, starting work at 9 PM and finishing early in the morning. This routine provided the full-day off that I desperately needed. The work itself was technically monotonous, the relentless physical motion of assembly: placing ham, salami, or vegetables onto a sandwich line.
But then, one routine evening shattered into an appalling movement.
It was on the night shift of June 24, 2025, that the insidious nature of this workplace was violently exposed. The incident was not a simple misunderstanding; it was an act of open and calculated hostility. I attempted to speak personally with the agency staff and the factory management, but my efforts to seek an informal resolution were met with a deafening, cold wall of silence. I realized my position was untenable, but the emotional pain and the sense of profound injustice—being forced out of a necessary job by malice—were immense. This compelled me to bypass the agency's silence and compose a detailed, formal complaint directly to the management, demanding accountability.
The following is the full text of my formal complaint. I have only changed my name to my online moniker, Erik Pytar, and masked my personal contact information for privacy. All other text remains as submitted on June 26, 2025:
The Formal Complaint – June 26, 2025
TO: The Board of Directors / General Manager Samworth Brothers Manton Wood Manton Wood Enterprise Park Worksop Nottinghamshire S80 2RS
FROM: Erik Pytar Employed via Staffline Agency Assembly Line Operative Sandwich Production Department
DATE: 26 June 2025
Dear Board of Directors / Dear General Manager,
I am writing to formally bring to your attention a deeply unsettling and humiliating situation I experienced during the night shift on June 24, 2025, on production line 14 at the Samworth Brothers Manton Wood factory. Although I am employed through Staffline Agency, I believe it is crucial to address these matters directly with the factory management, as the incidents occurred within your work environment and have profoundly affected my professional experience and well-being.
On that evening, approximately 10-12 minutes after production began on line 14, where I had been assigned by the shift leader, I started to observe unusual behaviour. A male individual, of English nationality, who was supposed to join the line, refused to do so and began to constantly hover near the shift leader. They engaged in rapid, whispered conversations, accompanied by hostile glances directed towards me, a behaviour also noted by other colleagues present on the line.
After the first break, I was called by the shift leader and informed that, upon returning from the break, I should change into the red uniform specific to hygiene and cleaning staff. I politely declined, explaining that once I had been assigned to the production line, I expected to work on that line or, if not, to be sent home, not reassigned to another task, as my purpose was not to work in hygiene. The shift leader understood and agreed to let me remain on the line. However, the individual who had refused to join the line continued to "run errands" around us, casting disdainful glances at me and laughing with other colleagues, including the line 10 leader. I also overheard that complaints might have been filed by some individuals from the line, possibly even by the line 10 leader.
Throughout the shift, I felt I was the target of disturbing remarks and and attitudes. During the smoking break, I learned from colleagues that my situation was already known throughout the factory and that the individual had discussed me in the main hall, stating that he refused to join the line because of me. Upon re-entering the factory, I noticed everyone staring intently at me, and when I tried to make eye contact or ask what was happening, people avoided my gaze and pretended to be doing something else. I attempted to directly ask colleagues about the issue, but no one would provide a clear answer, passing me from one person to another.
The humiliating behaviour continued. The individual made ironic gestures imitating the way I was opening bread and, the culminating moment, he took the sandwich I was working on directly from my hand, seemingly to weigh or photograph it. This gesture was perceived not as a standard quality check (he could have chosen any other product from the production line), but as a personal, deliberate action intended to humiliate me, especially as I was not even allowed to finish it. This moment created a profound feeling of humiliation and offence within me.
I felt extremely agitated, unappreciated, and emotionally and morally burdened. The accumulated stress was so immense that I began to tremble and experienced severe abdominal pain, which led me to request to leave work at 03:45, citing ill health. This decision came in the context of a similar prior experience, when, also after line 10, I had left early at 01:00. I believe this treatment constitutes a form of harassment and discrimination, resulting from a clear negligence on the part of management to intervene and protect employee integrity. Furthermore, the psychological impact has been so profound that I refused to attend my scheduled shift last night, feeling shame and frustration due to the lack of communication and resolution from the agency.
I am a new employee, with only three months of experience at Samworth Brothers Manton Wood, working through Staffline Agency. I am eager to learn, I enjoy my work, and I believe I have the capacity for professional development. I was promised that, as an employee, I have the right to work on any line I am assigned to. I believe that if there is any issue with my performance or skills in the workplace, it is essential for it to be communicated directly and transparently, rather than being subjected to such indirect, humiliating, and degrading situations.
I request an internal investigation into this incident and a clarification of my professional standing, ensuring that I will be treated with respect and without discrimination in a safe working environment. I will also be discussing these matters with the management of Staffline Agency.
I am available to provide any further details and to cooperate fully in resolving this situation.
Sincerely,
Erik Pytar

The Interruption
This exhaustive, detailed, and painful plea was submitted, and I waited for a response commensurate with the gravity of the allegations.
What followed next—the brief, uninformative reply from the company and the subsequent escalation of the conflict—will be revealed in The Shadow of Necessity: Part III.
